iGUESS-MED Project Workshop Held at Akdeniz University
A workshop under the EU-funded iGUESS-MED (Innovative Greenhouse Support System in the Mediterranean Region) project was successfully held on March 8, 2024, between 09:00 and 14:00 at the Prof. Dr. Tevfik Aksoy Conference Hall of Akdeniz University, Faculty of Agriculture, Antalya, Türkiye.
The event began with welcome speeches by senior representatives of the university, including Prof. Dr. Mustafa Erkan (Dean), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Demir Özdemir (Vice Dean), Prof. Dr. Hamide Gübbük (Chair of R&D Commission), and Prof. Dr. Dursun Büyüktas (Project Leader).
The workshop featured technical presentations and discussions covering various aspects of greenhouse agriculture and the iGUESS-MED project. Topics included the project's objectives, decision support systems, IoT-based climate control, and innovative pest and fertigation management strategies.
Key presentations were delivered by project researchers and stakeholders:

Asst. Prof. Dr. Gülçin Ece Aslan introduced the project framework and implementation in Türkiye.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cihan Karaca discussed the validation of the decision support system and shared preliminary results.

Dr. Sinan Zengin presented insights into the current status and future prospects of tomato cultivation in the Mediterranean region.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özer Çalış gave a talk on major tomato diseases and their management.
Following the technical sessions, participants visited a commercial greenhouse facility in Serik to observe the application of project technologies in real-world conditions.
The workshop served as a valuable platform for information exchange among researchers, industry stakeholders, and local producers, supporting the overarching goals of the iGUESS-MED project in promoting sustainable and smart greenhouse cultivation in the Mediterranean region.
