PROTECHMED Project’s First Newsletter Published
The first newsletter of the PROTECHMED Project, co-funded by the European Union under the Interreg NEXT MED Programme, was published in May 2026.
The newsletter provides general information about the PROTECHMED Project, including its objectives, project partners, budget, implementation period, and expected results. Akdeniz University is also featured as the project partner from Türkiye. The project aims to develop innovative and sustainable solutions to key challenges affecting the Mediterranean horticultural sector, including water scarcity, energy efficiency, and climate change.
The first issue also presents information on the Kick-off Meeting held in Larissa, Greece, in November 2025; the Best Practices Capitalisation exercise and Gap Analysis completed during the project’s first six months; and the Inception Camp planned in Sicily.
In the upcoming stages of the project, pilot greenhouse installations will be established in the participating countries. Smart irrigation systems and environmentally friendly technologies will be tested, performance monitoring activities will be conducted, and implementation guidelines adaptable to different climatic and economic conditions will be developed.
